A total of 19,009,051 Romanian citizens with the right to vote were registered in the Electoral Register on May 31, the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) informs.
The number increased compared to March 31, when 19,002,652 Romanian voters were registered (6,399 fewer).
The differences are due to operations carried out by mayors, data imports from the General Directorate for Persons’ Record and the General Directorate of Passports, according to a statement posted on the AEP website.
Between April 1 and May 31, 37,887 people who died were removed from the Electoral Register at the level of the municipalities. In addition, 427 people were struck off the electoral register because they were banned from exercising their right to vote or were laid under interdiction.
A total of 140 people regained their electoral rights following the expiry of the strike-off period.
The number of voters who turned 18 between April 1 and May 31 is 36,102, who were entered in the Electoral Register ex officio by AEP, based on the communication of the General Directorate for Persons’ Record (DGEP). At the same time, data imported from the General Directorate for Persons’ Record reveal that 700 new voters entered the register.
Imported data from the General Directorate of Passports reveal that 7,771 new voters have registered.
Out of the total number of Romanian voters who appear in the Electoral Register, 17,990,783 have their domicile or residence in the country, and 1,018,268 have their domicile abroad and are holders of CRDS passports.
According to Law no. 208/2015, the Electoral Register is a national computerized system for registering and updating the identification data of Romanian citizens with the right to vote and information on their voting precincts.
The electoral register is structured by counties, municipalities, cities, towns, communes, for Romanian citizens residing or residing in the country. The persons authorized to carry out operations in the Electoral Register containing Romanian citizens having the residence or domicile in the country are the mayors or the persons designated by the mayors, by order, according to the law.
