A total of 42,568 cases of respiratory infections – clinical influenza, IACRS and pneumonia – were reported in the week of April 28-May 4, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reported on Thursday.
No deaths due to influenza have been reported during this period. The number of people who have died from influenza this season is 73.
„During the week of April 28 – May 4, 42,568 cases of respiratory infections (clinical influenza, IACRS and pneumonia) were reported, registering 42.3% more cases compared to the same week of the previous season (29,916) and 19.3% fewer cases compared to the previous week (52,727). The variation in excess of the calculated average of 40,720 cases from the 5 previous seasons (excluding pandemic seasons) was 4.5%,” the INSP reported.
According to the INSP, 230 clinical influenza cases were reported nationwide, compared to 241 cases in the same week of the previous season and 361 recorded the week before. Clinical influenza cases were reported by 25 counties (17 counties reported no cases), most of them in Bucharest (53) and Satu Mare County (42). In 23 counties, the number of clinical influenza cases reported was below 20 cases.
7 more cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were reported (3 with non-subtyped influenza A virus, 1 with influenza AH3 virus and 3 with influenza B virus).
By May 4, 1,155,801 people vaccinated against influenza were registered in the National Electronic Vaccination Registry (RENV), of which 1,134,424 were from population groups that benefit from compensation.
