Romanian athlete Diana Ana Maria Ion won the silver medal in the triple jump event on Friday evening, at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn (the Netherlands).
Diana Ion achieved the most important performance of her career with 14.31 meters, the gold going to Spanish athlete Ana Peleteiro-Compaore, with 14.37 meters. The bronze medal was won by Finnish athlete Senni Salminen, with 13.99 meters.
Diana Ion had entered the final with the seventh performance in the qualifications, 13.88 meters.
Also on Friday, Alina Rotaru-Kottmann missed the chance to reach the long jump final, after ranking 14th in the qualifications, with a performance of 6.29 meters.
Razvan Grecu also failed to reach the triple jump final, finishing the qualifications in 17th place, with 15.66 m.
Romania is participating with seven athletes at the European Championships in Apeldoorn: Alina Rotaru-Kottmann (high jump), Andreea Talos (triple jump), Diana Ana Maria Ion (triple jump), Maria Mihalache (60 m), Andrei Rares Toader (weightlifting), Razvan Cristian Grecu (triple jump), Alin Ionut Anton (60 m hurdles).
At the last edition of the European Indoor Championships, in 2023, in Istanbul, Romania won a silver medal through Claudia Bobocea (1,500 m) and a bronze medal through Gabriel Bitan (long jump).
