Romanian player Bernadette Szocs had a strong start with a clear 4-0 victory (11-6, 11-1, 12-10, 11-3) against Australia’s Constantina Psihogios on Tuesday, in Group 9 of the Table Tennis World Cup in Macao, according to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation’s website.
World number 13, Szocs will play her second match on Wednesday against Indian player Sreeja Akula.
Elizabeta Samara also won her first match in Group 12, defeating American Amy Wang 4-0 on Monday. She will face South Korea’s Yubin Shin on Wednesday.
In the men’s competition, Ovidiu Ionescu lost both his matches in Group 10: 0-4 to Japan’s Shunsuke Togami on Monday, and 1-3 (8-11, 11-8, 7-11, 8-11) to China’s Lin Gaoyuan, world number 9, on Tuesday.
