Border police officers from Arad discovered, on Wednesday, 17 migrants from Syria and Iraq who tried to illegally cross the border into Hungary, hidden in a truck carrying polystyrene, inform agerpres.ro.
The truck was checked at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point and was driven by a Lithuanian who was transporting polystyrene on the Romania – Czech Republic route.
„Following a thorough verification of the means of transport, 17 foreign citizens were discovered, hidden in the semi-trailer. The people were taken over and transported to the sector headquarters for investigation where, following the checks, the border police established that they were citizens from Syria and Iraq, aged between 18 and 53, who intended to fraudulently cross the border,” informs the Arad Border Police.
The driver is being investigated for migrant smuggling, and those hidden in the truck are being investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.
