Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov met on Tuesday in Sofia with the president of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce Victor Gugushev, with the two officials discussing bilateral economic relations and opportunities for improving connectivity between Bulgaria and Romania, which would benefit business, tourism and inter-company cooperation, news agency BTA reports.
Minister Dilov said that Romania is among Bulgaria’s leading foreign economic partners, as bilateral trade amounted to 7.35 billion euros in 2024. Bulgarian exports to Romania stood at 3.8 billion euros, placing Bulgaria’s trade balance on a surplus of 261.8 million euros.
The Bulgarian official highlighted the opportunities for expanding the bilateral partnership through the participation of companies in trade fairs and missions, joint access to third markets in various economic sectors, the promotion of innovation and start-ups, as well as the joint implementation of cross-border projects.
In his turn, Victor Gugushev highlighted the over 20-year history of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and the fact that it brings together over 150 companies from almost all sectors of the economy: logistics, tourism, construction and services etc. „About 70% of our members are Bulgarian companies, which are also active on the Romanian market,” said Gugushev. He went on to say that a key priority for the Chamber is to improve connectivity between the two countries – both by land and by air. „The development of new and modern road links, as well as the increase in the number of direct flights between Bulgarian and Romanian cities will facilitate business, tourism and cooperation between companies. The Chamber actively supports efforts in this direction and is ready to help with expertise and partnerships,” Gugushev noted.
Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Angel Zaburtov also participated in Tuesday’s meeting.
