AGERPRES special correspondent Oana Ghita reports: The effects of the clampdown on large-scale tax evasion will be seen next year, as efforts are being made in this direction, President Nicusor Dan declared on Monday.
„Regarding large-scale tax evasion, I had a discussion with caretaker Prime Minister Predoiu just last night, and he said that he is looking into wether we need to change the National Defense Strategy so that more state forces are focused on combating this phenomenon,” Nicusor Dan said at a press conference in Vilnius.
Referring to the possible effects of the fight of tax evasion, he said that the Romanian authorities „are now in the situation where they have to convey to the financial market, to the investors, a set of measures for the second half of 2025.”
„I am optimistic that we will deliver on combating large-scale tax evasion, but the effects will only be seen in 2026,” the president went on to remark.
According to official sources, a meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT) will be called in June to include combating large-scale tax evasion in the National Defense Strategy.
