The Government sent a message of respectful congratulations to His Holiness, Leo XIV, the new Pope of the Catholic Church, reaffirming its commitment to interfaith dialogue and to supporting the continuity of Christian values ??and the stability of the faith.

American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected, on Thursday, Pope of the Catholic Church. The new sovereign pontiff chose the pontifical name of Leo XIV, international press agencies inform.
Robert Prevost thus becomes the first American Pope in history.
