The acts of heroism of the Romanian military are engraved in the collective memory and are an example of the national spirit, the Minister of Home Affairs Catalin Predoiu said on Friday, October 25, Romanian Armed Forces Day, inform agerpres.ro.
„On Romanian Armed Forces Day, we celebrate those who, with devotion and courage, especially in the current geopolitical context, defend the country and guarantee our security. Every day the military proves loyalty and a sense of duty that inspires respect and gratitude from the entire nation. A symbol of courage, sacrifice and dedication in the fight for freedom, October 25, 1944 marks the complete liberation of Romania’s soil and is a milestone in national history. This date is not only a military victory, but also a moment of affirmation of the will of the Romanian people to preserve its sovereignty and a chapter in the process of consolidating Romania as a free and independent nation,” Predoiu said.
According to the minister, the military do not fulfil only a duty, but serve the ideal of defending Romania’s values and interests.
„‘Everything for the country, nothing for me!’ – these words, spoken by Carol I, remain alive in the hearts of those who have chosen to dedicate their lives to the protection of the country. The military does not fulfil only a duty, but serves an ideal: that of defending Romania’s values and interests. They are the shield and sword of our country, ready to respond to any threat, regardless of sacrifices, and the glorious past of the Romanian Armed Forces offers us today the security and stability that we cherish every day. The acts of heroism of the Romanian military are engraved in the collective memory and represent an example of the national spirit, so that, today, we honour those who, through their sacrifice, have left us this country’s legacy.”
Predoiu added that the Romanian Armed Forces have constantly evolved in recent decades.
„As a member state of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, Romania today has a modern army, well trained and capable of acting efficiently and professionally alongside its allies. The Romanian Armed Forces have constantly evolved in recent decades and earned a place of honours among the militaries of the world. This recognition comes not only from military performance, but also from the commitment to maintaining global peace and stability, in accordance with international standards,” the minister added.
According to Predoiu, in missions abroad, Romanian soldiers, together with employees of the Home Affairs Ministry, police officers and gendarmes, have proven that they are capable of facing the most complex challenges, being on par with armed forces of the most powerful countries in the world.
